As soon as the clock strikes midnight, signaling the start of a New Year, many have already committed themselves to a bunch of New Year’s resolutions.
The year 2020 has sure been an awful year for everyone. It started with a bang as Iran’s military commander Qasem Soleimani was assassinated by a drone strike in Baghdad, Iraq. The world then stood on the brink of another panic attack when a contagious and very harmful virus began to spread in central China’s Wuhan city. In late December, the number of cases was rising rapidly and had become so alarming that the Chinese government ordered a lockdown. A “blame China” campaign swept all over the world and yet, according to a reader poll on resolutions in December 2020, around 40-50 % of people were planning their resolutions for 2021.
Then, in 2021, when the whole world was getting hard hit by the coronavirus – and the “blame China” attitudes were still strong –as per Statista’s Global Consumer Survey, around 40 % of adults were busy planning their resolutions for 2022.
Whether it’s about losing weight, eating more healthily, getting out of debt or learning a new language, for many, New Year’s resolutions are a must – even if 80 % of people fail to keep up their resolutions. And, 2023 is no different!
With the start of a new year, many have decided to break bad habits and launch new ones. While some have decided to spend more time with their family and friends, others are determined to work harder and pay off their debts. But, what about home ownership resolutions?
Now It’s Time to Buy a House
Several social media influencers have been interviewed, along with their thousands of followers, and here’s what they said about homebuying in 2023:
“2022 has been a very difficult year, but there’s hope for this year. 2023 is the time to reflect on your homeownership goals and to dream of becoming a homeowner.”
How to Reach Your New Year’s Resolution?
Every year, people make a bunch of lofty New Year’s resolutions and every year, they accomplish approximately zero of them.
Are you determined to become a homeowner in 2023?
It is then important not to make the same mistakes you did in 2022.
So, here are some tips to help you make your homeownership resolution a reality.
Be Specific About What You Want
Do you want to buy a house in 2023?
Fine, define the type of house you want!
Do you want a ranch-style house with a small yard and attached garage? Do you prefer a cottage-style house with arched doorways and shuttered windows? Or, do you prefer a contemporary house with a big backyard and a swimming pool?
Instead of just sticking to “I want to buy a house,” try to be more specific about the type of property you want. Only then will you be able to tailor your home search and your homebuying strategy.
For instance, it is also important to think about the number of bedrooms you want in your house or how much storage space you will need.
According to Sarah Ayala, a real estate agent in California, “It is very important to tell your clients that before you even start the whole house hunting process, they need to write down a list of everything they would want in a house.”
Be Realistic
Who doesn’t want to live in a sophisticated modern house featuring geometric lines, large windows, open floor plans, exposed roof beams and with a huge outdoor space? Who doesn’t want to live in a large mansion that provides the feeling of a 5-star hotel?
However, it is important to be realistic and only thinks about buying properties you can afford.
