Trixie Motel: 3 Things Every Drag Fan Should Know

If you are a fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race, then you must have queened out about Trixie Mattel. You can now even stay in her motel, which she renovated herself and which is going to be a renovation show coming to a screen near you later on this year. The show is set to air on Discovery+, and it is set to follow Trixie and her journey renovating a motel in Palm Spring.

Trixie is starting this new project with her boyfriend, David, who was also the producer of her documentary, Moving parts. If the motel is anything like her documentary, then we can’t wait to visit it and rave about it. So, without further ado, let’s dive into this blog and learn more about Trixie Mattel and her new and upcoming project.

1. Who is Trixie Mattel?

At this point, I think she needs no introduction, but for those who don’t know her, I would firstly like to say sorry you are missing out, and secondly, come with us and let us lay the groundwork. Trixie Mattel is the drag Persona of Brian Micheal Firkus. Born on 23rd August 1989 in Waunakee, Wisconsin.

She is half Ojibwe and comes from a Native American Family in Crivitz, and she is an American drag queen. She is best known for her web show, UNHhhh, and Queens who like to watch, but also for being on Season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars season 3. Trixie is also a Billboard Heatseekers #1 charting recording artist for her 2018 album one stone.

Not only is she an influencer who releases videos once a week on her YouTube channel, but she is also one of the Judges in Queen of the Universe. Trixie is also the owner of Trixie Cosmetics, and she recently bought the oldest queer bar in Milwaukee, which is called This Is It.

We don’t know a lot about this project, but this is what we know so far. According to Trixie herself and the show’s description on Discovery+, Trixie motel has at least 7 rooms, a ‘commercial kitchen’, and an outdoor pool area where the guests can take a tip, relax and sunbathe.

According to Trixie, the main aim of this renovation show is to create the ultimate drag paradise, which is a safe and inclusive space for queer people, and Trixie will be the mascot of her own motel. For us, this is the beginning of a perennial gay travel destination that very drag fan and a queer person should stay in at least once in their life. I know I’m going to be visiting it soon.

Most people suspect that Trixie motel is located at 2249 N Palm Spring Drive, which was previously home to the Bear Texx Mexx restaurant and Pool House boutique hotel. If you are going to watch this show, then expect to see Hollywood stars, and we are all excited about this. Expect to see Orville Peck, Paris Hilton, Dan Levy, and the HBIC herself, Tiffany ‘New York’ Pollard.

3. Final thoughts

Palm Springs is a popular queer vacation area, and this is why many people go there to lounge and relax. With the addition of Trixie’s new project, it is slowly becoming a gay mecca and is a spot every queer and drag race fan should visit at least once in their life. It is one of the queer meccas in the United States in my book.

As someone who works in Academia and focuses on queer study and history, I feel this is a monumental moment for us queer people. So support, let’s come together and a queer Native American man, and let’s support them however we can. Be it by buying their merch or by visiting their up-and-coming motel.

I lived deep in the country in northern Wisconsin. I didn’t have any neighbors or anything, so in the summers, I played guitar for hours and hours every day until I was about 18. I never thought about combining it with drag, ’cause to me, well, drag queens don’t play guitar. Now I’m like, ‘You idiot, that’s an opportunity.’
